Lighting business grows rapidly, Panasonic turns losses into profits in 2013


Japanese electronics manufacturer Panasonic Corporation released its financial report on April 28. In the 2013 year ended March 31, 2014, the company turned a profit for the first time in three years, achieving a net profit of 120.44 billion yen (approximately US$1.18 billion).

In 2013 (April 2013-March 2014), Panasonic achieved revenue of approximately 7.74 trillion yen (approximately 472.9 billion yuan), a year-on-year increase of 5.9%; operating profit was 305.114 billion yen (approximately 18.652 billion yuan), a year-on-year increase of 89.6%.

Panasonic also predicted in its 2013 annual report that by the end of March 2015, in 2014, the company is expected to achieve revenue of 7.75 trillion yen, operating profit of 310 billion yen, and net profit of 140 billion yen.

Financial reports show that Panasonic's lighting business achieved sales of 322.5 billion yen in 2013, a year-on-year increase of 107%.
