Cree teamed up with Musco to complete the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge lighting renovation project

The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is located in the Bay Area of California, USA. It consists of the East Bridge and the West Bridge. It is one of the longest span bridges in the world. The Bay Bridge is part of Interstate 80 that spans the entire United States and is a direct link from San Francisco to Oakland. Recently, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) completed the overall replacement of the original lighting on the East Bridge of the Bay Bridge using advanced energy-saving LED lighting solutions. Musco Lighting provided an energy-efficient LED lighting solution for the project after three years of testing and customized lighting fixture designs, all using Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) XLamp XM-L LEDs. A total of nearly 1,600 Musco Lighting customized LED lighting fixtures have been installed on the Bay Bridge. A total of more than 51,500 Cree high-performance LED packaging devices have been used to successfully light up the east bridge of the bridge. In order to withstand the highest level of earthquakes while also providing a unique sensory experience for people passing by the bridge, the Bay Bridge management department needs to install earthquake-resistant, long-lasting, energy-saving and environmentally friendly lighting fixtures for the 2,047-foot-long East Bridge area. Traditional metal halide fixtures are obviously not suitable for this application.
