The 2023 World Display Industry Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan from September 7 to 8. At the meeting, Zhang Li, president of the China Electronics and Information Industry Development Research Institute, released the "China's New Display Industry High Quality Development Index (2023)".
The Index shows that the development of China's new display industry presents four new trends: continuous growth in scale, accelerated technological innovation, diversified application expansion, and green transformation and upgrading. Since 2011, the average annual compound growth rate of China's new display industry revenue has reached 21.6%, exceeding the electronic information manufacturing industry by 14.9 percentage points in the same period. China's display industry has formed a number of distinctive industrial clusters such as Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hefei, Wuhan, Xiamen, and Guangzhou.
From the perspective of investment, the focus of capital has shifted from panel manufacturing to the upstream and application links of the industrial chain; from the perspective of technological development path, the integration of innovation with the digital economy will lead to the high-quality development of the display industry.
The Index proposes that the challenges facing the high-quality development of China's new display industry include the relative dispersion of business entities and the need to strengthen the development of industrial agglomeration; insufficient clustering of innovation resources and the urgent need to improve technology-leading capabilities; weak growth in traditional applications and suboptimal growth in emerging markets; still weak supporting capabilities and immature support platform services.
Finally, Zhang Li put forward suggestions on these challenges from the aspects of high-quality competition, digital economy, coordinated development, technological innovation, and open cooperation.
