Philips carry new 60W LED bulbs to participate in DOE contest

Philips has successfully developed a substitute for ordinary household light bulb LED bulbs, and submitted to DOE, to participate in the'L Prize contest.

U.S. Department of energy recently announced the establishment of its Bright Tomorrow Prize Lighting (L Prize) contest has been the first entry: Philips ELectronics from the incandescent lamp to replace the 60W LED.

'L Prize 'is the first technology competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of energy (DOE), which aims to motivate lighting manufacturers to develop high quality, high efficiency LED products to replace ordinary bulbs. The U.S. Department of energy's goal is to improve product quality and energy efficiency, while reducing the cost of the technology, which is widely accepted by the market.

DOE previously announced in 2007 the U.S. energy independence and security method (the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007) issued Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prize DOE to set up in May 2008 (L Prize) contest.

Legislation on the lighting industry put forward a challenge to develop as soon as possible to replace 60W incandescent lamp and PAR 38 halogen lighting products, while the development of new lighting products in twenty-first Century".

Philips submission of this product will experience a rigorous assessment and extensive, including performance testing led by an independent laboratory, on-site participation by common institutions or other partners evaluation, as well as long-term lumen in all kinds of extreme conditions to maintain the test and load test.

At the same time, DOE said they want more companies to participate, whether large companies or small companies they are welcome. The participating companies can participate in different competitions according to different product types, until a winner is announced. The winner will receive a cash prize and other sponsors' prizes.

To win the L Prize award is not easy, to meet the requirements of the DOE developed a variety of harsh requirements, including performance, quality, life, cost, practicality, and to be suitable for large-scale promotion and mass production requirements.

In addition to the cash prize, the first fully meet the requirements of the game winning companies will receive federal procurement agreements, public projects or other incentive prizes. DOE said, there are already 27 utilities and energy efficiency organization to join'L Prize 'contest sponsors ranks, they have agreed to work together, to reward L Prize the winners of the contest, to help promote and deploy the award-winning products.

At present, the requirements of LED to replace the 60W incandescent bulb DOE include:

light efficiency of more than 90 lm/W, more than all incandescent and most compact fluorescent lamps.

Energy consumption less than 10 watts (compared to a 60W incandescent lamp)

Light output of more than 900 lumens, equivalent to the brightness of a 60W incandescent lamp

CRI index of more than 90

Color temperature is between 2700K and 3000K, can be issued with incandescent light warm white light

At present, the United States each year to sell 425 million 60W incandescent lamp, accounting for half of the national household incandescent lamp market share. DOE estimates that if LED used instead of words, the year will save 34 terawatt-hours (terawatt hours), enough to support 17 million 400 thousand households a year lighting demand. In addition, 5 million 600 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced every year.
