New LED thermal management technology is expected to change the next generation of LED production

A production of lighter, longer service life of LED technology, from the research laboratory to the $3 billion global high power lighting market taken the first step. The new production system, is called liquid forging (liquid forging), significantly improve the way small electronic device cooling, and is expected to change the next generation of LED production.
High in the next decade, high power LED to replace the traditional household and office lighting. The new production technology, liquid forging, is by John Yong (the left) and his team (left to right) Steven Tong Kin Kong, Chua Beng Wah and Ho Meng Kwong, common development.
Many electronic parts need radiator to avoid damage. Expansion of 10% a year, because of the global market for home, office and street lighting, effective cooling grave engineering challenges. The existence of hot, will damage the lamps and lanterns, cause the lights dimmed or efficiency loss. Manufactured by A star of the Singapore institute of technology (SIMTech) production of the top of the liquid forging method, provides solutions for the industry.
"Mix" between the liquid forging is a forging and casting, lead researcher Chua SIMTech engineering Beng Wah said, "it is especially to meet production and brighter devices with complex characteristics, such as with forging aluminum alloy radiator."
The process for thermal engineer provides significant benefits: thermal conductivity of liquid forging products than twice molding of the traditional technology to ascend. "This method is very suitable for radiator design", Beng Wah added.
In April this year, A star international technology transfer of exploits Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL), the patent license to A leading LED thermal management company. Agreement to allow the company USES the liquid forging process in the production of light weight, high performance LED heat sink.
Liquid forging is led by John Yong SIMTech team development. In 2008, Yong due to the excellent research team, their research found that Singapore won the highest honor "national science awards".
High scalability of the process, makes the complex parts, such as copper and aluminum composite materials - can step implementation. The development means the radiator and lamps and lanterns can together, thus greatly reduce assembly costs. Also makes the system more flexible design can be achieved, like a complex array of plug and socket, thus increasing the surface area, improving the heat dissipation. In the future, the final product will reduce the use of the machine, in part because of the process can be more effectively used raw materials. Synthesis of the radiator to the plating, which can improve the thermal properties of 10-15%.
But that is not limited to the cooling liquid forging LED applications. ETPL CEO Philip Lim explains: "liquid forging is a kind of low cost system, the compound, aviation and automobile industry, all have advantage than traditional production process. The most important is that this technique can be used for alloy wheel rim, electrical shell and the pistons."
Products listed as early as in 2013, the technology of the future will be more brilliant.
