Catalyst provides a new and efficient solution for users of the 604 series LED drive

[BP] the Nikkei news agency reported in December 14, 2007, analog, mixed signal and nonvolatile memory supplier of Catalyst semiconductor company (NASDAQ:CATS), released the new Quad-ModeTM patented technology based on fractional charge pump LED driver. CAT3604V is a 4 channel LED driver for the use of 'series LED driver users to increase the Catalyst patented Quad-Mode architecture to further enhance efficiency.

Quad-Mode technology is not only able to provide high efficiency similar to that of inductive LED driver, but also avoid the problem of high thickness and EMI interference caused by the use of inductors. At present, most of the charge pump LED drives provide 3 operating modes according to the output voltage and input voltage ratio: 1X, 1.5x and 2x. The Quad-Mode architecture uses the CAT3604V to add fourth modes of operation - 1.33x, 1.33X provides a higher efficiency, in particular, the four mode (four-mode) charge pump still requires only two external capacitors. 1.33x mode can effectively reduce the input current of the battery terminal, so that the power supply side of the system to achieve the minimum noise, which is a key parameter in mobile phones and other portable devices.

The new CAT3604V is a PWM dimming interface and channel detection of the charge pump type LED driver, it can automatically detect the LED channel open or short circuit state to ensure that the chip can still maintain the highest efficiency under various conditions.

CAT3604V is the newest member of the Catalyst LED drive product line, which also includes a 6 channel CAT3636, a Quad-Mode, a 4 channel CAT3644 and a 3 channel CAT3643 with a single line EZDim dimming.

About Quad-ModeTM

Catalyst Quad-Mode adaptive fractional charge pump technology patent to enhance the performance of LED drive to a new level, to enhance the efficiency of the device size is only 10%, the existing three mode charge pump assembly 65%, without additional capacitance and cost. The efficiency of the device with Quad-Mode architecture is as high as 92%, and the average efficiency of the device is about 84%, which can save the space of the circuit board more effectively and reduce the cost.
