Austria microelectronics company has released AS3693 and AS3694 designed specifically for LED based LCD backlight applications, extending its high brightness LED driver product family.

The new LED driver AS3693 and AS3694 uses optimized synchronization and timing technology to avoid costly and not optimal solutions based on standard LED driver design. They are very consistent with the latest trend of LCD backlight, LCD backlight and TV screen synchronization. The so-called local dimming light that only need some light to the TV screen backlight, the highlight is very bright and dark spots are all black. This technology helps OEM manufacturers to achieve the best picture contrast and power consumption of the whole machine.

The new LED driver AS3693 and AS3694 can also provide excellent driving accuracy of +/-0.5% to ensure accurate brightness and color matching, leading to any existing competitive devices on the market. AS3693 provides 16 high brightness LED output channels, the AS3694 can provide up to 12 channels and 3 additional DC/DC converters. Each brightness and timing output can be independently controlled by SPI or I2C. Local dimming is supported by an independent PWM generator, the generator has a programmable delay, cycle and duty cycle, which can optimize the full flicker free TV screen.

AS3693 and AS3694 high precision LED current source with a wide voltage range of 50V, can support long LED string configuration. In addition, the integrated dedicated power control technology can achieve thermal and energy efficiency design. The power supply voltage of the AS3693 and AS3694 high precision LED drivers is provided by the built-in shunt regulator from the LED supply voltage. Both of these two devices have security features that support thermal control and LED short circuit and open circuit detection.
