US Army to develop wearable flexible OLED displays

According to the United States, Western defense reported that the United States Universal Display Corporation (Universal Display) is a phosphorescent OLED display and lighting technology known developers. In October 20th, the company announced the acquisition of a small business innovation research (SBIR) contract with the United States Army to extend the contract phase III. According to the $330 thousand contract extension, Universal Display Corporation will continue to carry out flexible OLED display development, production and delivery of a metal foil in the flexible display prototype for the U.S. army.

Universal Display Corporation with South Korea and the United States L-3 LG display display system of partnerships, dedicated to improving based on flexible active matrix OLED metal foil substrate (AMOLED) design and performance display prototype. At present, the U.S. Department of defense is being used for military purposes to evaluate the technology, including a soldier in the field of the use of wrist light display. The extension of the contract includes the design and manufacture of a new prototype, which uses amorphous silicon substrate and metal foil substrate, designed by LG. The new prototype will also use a phosphorescent OLED panel designed and manufactured by Universal Display Corporation. The OLED display will be loaded into a thinner new shell, designed and manufactured by L-3 display systems. Compared with the early prototype, the new shell is smaller and more durable, and the utility model can be more flexible and portable in the future.

According to Universal Display Corporation officials said, in the development of flexible OLED display, the U.S. Army's support is indispensable. The three companies will continue to collaborate on the project to demonstrate a lighter, smaller, more advanced flexible OLED display for soldiers and similar customers.
