The country's first LED directional light source signal light was put into use in Xiangtan

Recently, a traffic light called "directional light source signal light" was officially launched on a pilot basis in Xiangtan City. This is also the first practical application of this technology nationwide. The signal light was introduced and deployed on a pilot basis under the leadership of the "Cai Xiaoke Intelligent Transportation Studio" of the Xiangtan Municipal Public Security Bureau. It aims to solve the problem of driver misrecognition and mis-traveling at irregular intersections due to the excessive recognition range of the signal light, thereby further improving road traffic safety and traffic efficiency.

It is understood that the two intersections deployed in this pilot are the Banshe intersection and the Jianshe intersection roundabout. Due to the special structure of the intersection, adjacent direction signal lights cannot form a standard 90-degree right-angle layout. As a result, drivers can easily see the signal lights in multiple directions when parking and waiting, causing confusion. This not only easily leads to traffic violations, but also poses considerable safety risks.

Different from traditional signal lights, this new type of "directional light source signal light" uses a small-angle LED light source, combined with a special grille and light mask design, which can accurately control the horizontal viewing range of the signal light within 15 degrees on the left and right, while the vertical viewing distance remains unchanged. This means that only the driver facing the lane can clearly see the signal indication, while the driver in the adjacent lane can hardly see "other people's signal lights", thus effectively avoiding misunderstandings.

It is worth mentioning that this technology specifically retains the traditional light source characteristics of the yellow signal light unit in the design, avoiding being misjudged as equipment failure, and taking into account both safety and practicality.

The implementation of this technology is not only an innovation for Xiangtan in the field of smart transportation, but also embodies the governance idea of ​​"small incision, big results", and is expected to be promoted and used at similar intersections across the country in the future.
