Driven by the dual drive of generative AI (Gen AI) and global digital transformation, the huge demand for computing power is comprehensively changing the construction and operation model of data centers. In particular, hyperscale data centers have become the mainstay of investment and construction.
TrendForce observed that lighting systems, which in the past accounted for less than 2% of the total cost of data center construction, are now subject to strict PUE (power usage efficiency) regulatory policies and the trend of zero-carbon emissions. For example, the PUE of new data centers is strictly limited to less than 1.3 or 1.4. Data center lighting has jumped from a neglected link to an indispensable key link to achieve green and low-carbon goals.
With the resonance of the expansion of AI computing power and the increase in LED lighting penetration, the data center lighting market has strong growth momentum. The latest data from TrendForce shows that the global LED data center lighting market will reach US$1.97 billion in 2025, and is expected to further expand to US$2.16 billion in 2026, with an annual growth rate of 9%. By 2030, the market size is expected to grow to US$3.69 billion, with a compound growth rate of 13% from 2025 to 2030.
From a regional perspective, North America has benefited from the huge demand for stock replacement and system upgrades, firmly ranking as the world's largest market; while the Asia-Pacific region, driven by policy guidance and digital economy investment in China, India, Southeast Asia and other places, is entering a new round of construction peak and has become the region with the most prominent growth momentum.
Key facilities in the data center need to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the reliability requirements for lighting fixtures far exceed those of ordinary commercial lighting. In order to meet the ultimate energy efficiency requirements, the luminous efficiency of mainstream LED lamps has generally been increased to more than 160 lm/W to effectively reduce the pressure of lighting heat load on the cooling system; at the same time, it must have a long life of more than 100,000 hours, and use 4000K-5000K cold white light and high color rendering to facilitate cable identification. In addition, with the popularity of the "drone room" model, smart lamps that support infrared or microwave induction dimming have become standard equipment, and the penetration of on-demand lighting is accelerating.
Under the huge market opportunities, the global data center lighting industry has formed a multi-level competition pattern. For example, Signify provides full life cycle services covering LiFi wireless technology and customized design through its Cooper Lighting and Interact IoT platforms, stabilizing its high-end ecological market. Acuity Brands relies on its strong intelligent edge strategy to deeply embed lighting into the building management system architecture, establishing its industry position in the North American market; Zumtobel uses the TECTON continuous trunking system as the core, emphasizing high modularity, tool-free installation and excellent light quality, and is favored by high-end hosting and image-oriented data centers; LEDVANCE focuses on universal replacement solutions provided by standardized linear lamps; PacLights specializes in high ROI in the stock market Renovation to meet low-cost maintenance needs with magnetic kit and flexible dimming design.
TrendForce believes that data center lighting systems are increasingly integrated into the overall infrastructure architecture. In the future, leading manufacturers with cross-system integration capabilities and green product (EPD) certification will continue to expand their influence in the high-end market; while manufacturers that focus on inventory transformation and provide flexible transformation solutions will also secure their place, and the market's professional stratification trend will become increasingly clear.
