TI boost converter can manage multiple high brightness LED

The day before, TI (TI) announced the launch of a high brightness LED driver with 40 V and 1.2 A integrated switch, this product can drive up to three series 1W LED. The new TPS61165 device with high performance and excellent characteristics of 3 V ~ 18 V wide input voltage range, which enables designers to design more efficient management of high power LED load in the single battery powered applications or 9V/12V bus.

TPS61165 control the brightness of LED by digital single line interface or pulse width modulation (PWM) signal. The digital interface can be programmed for internal registers to set the LED current to one of the 32 log step values. In addition, the converter also has a variety of built-in protection features, such as LED open circuit protection, soft start, over current limit and over temperature protection.

In addition to drive LED lighting, TPS61165 can also drive LED backlight, support width of 9 inches of the multimedia display, so as to meet the super mobile PC, LCD electronic photo frame, industrial laser diode or medical and industrial lighting applications.

In addition, TI also launched a new TPS61160 and TPS61161 converter that supports 3V to 18V input voltage. Two devices are integrated with the current switch 0.6A, the target application for portable applications and battery powered applications with small screens, such as portable game machine, GPS system and smart phones in 3 inch or 4 inch miniature LCD display backlight technology. TPS61160 can drive up to six LED, support 26V LED open circuit protection; and TPS61161 can drive up to 10 LED, support 38V LED open circuit protection. Like TPS61165, the brightness of LED can be adjusted not only by the single line digital interface or PWM signal, but also by the analog dimming.
