Maxim launched MAX8830 LED lighting management IC, 2.5mm x 2.5mm, using micro UCSP. The device integrates a boost converter to display DC-DC backlight and four current regulator, a camera flash current regulator and all power switches, reducing the overall program size, thereby reducing the number of external components and shorten the design time. The high efficiency of MAX8830 (> 90%), flexible operating mode, and micro encapsulation makes it ideal for cellular handsets, wireless PDA and smart phones.
MAX8830 does not require independent control of the IC, the device is equipped with four channel 10mA current regulator, suitable for the display of the backlight or signal application LED driver. LED brightness can be adjusted by I - C interface consists of 32 independent. Ultra Low Dropout (30mV, typ) enables the boost DC-DC voltage to be set to the lowest possible voltage according to the selected LED, thereby improving the system efficiency.
MAX8830 also incorporates a low dropout (75mV typ) 200mA flash current regulator, allowing users through I - C interface independent programming 16 film and flash mode. The programmable flash safety timer prevents the finger burn or LED damage due to the long duration of the flash. The camera module can use simple logic pin direct control and flash mode, movie mode through the logic control or I - C interface is enabled, thus providing maximum system design flexibility.
In order to improve the efficiency and reduce the number of components, the 280mA boost converter integrates the switching MOSFET and the rectifier. The inductor 1MHz MAX8830 switching frequency allows the use of a minimum of 2 H. In order to improve the flexibility of MAX8830 with I - C compatible interface, allows the output voltage to 100mV to 3.8V to 5.2V programming step. This makes MAX8830 not only ideal for lighting management applications, but also suitable for other circuits such as audio amplifier power supply.
Automatic detection of open circuit and short circuit LED MAX8830, and can read the state through the I - C interface, which is convenient for application in automated factory test. Other features include DC-DC converter over current protection, over temperature protection, but also can work at -40 C to +85 C extended temperature range.
