DOE is seeking advice on its proposed standards, as of February 27, 2009.
The United States Department of energy (DOE) has issued a draft standard for the first draft of the energy star for the integral LED lamp, and has published the standards on the website for comments.
DOE also released an article explaining why the integral LED lamp is included here in the Energy Star program and outlines the agency's decision to start making decisions on certain standards. DOE also lists several key issues to be discussed, and is expected to revise and finalize the deadline for these standards.
What is an integral LED lamp?
The basic definition of the integral LED lamp is that it is a lamp with the following characteristics:
Light emitting diode,
Integrated LED drive,
Comply with the ANSI standard base design, through the ANSI standard lamp holder connected to the circuit.
DOE further details of the standard, including:
Integrated LED lamp plans to replace 25W or larger standard incandescent lamps,
Decorative (Candlestick style) lamps and 20W or larger standard reflector lamps
As well as non beacon (non-standard lamps).
However, these standards do not apply to LED lamps, but instead plan to replace linear fluorescent or xenon (HID) lamps.
The theoretical basis of the integral LED lamp standard
DOE believes that the integral LED lamp has now become technically and commercially viable products. However, due to the poor performance of many LED lamps, some of the energy saving project sponsors have repeatedly requested the minimum performance criteria. Therefore, now in the early stages of the lighting market to develop these standards, lock the target, the manufacturer can make the project sponsor satisfaction, and ultimately meet the needs of the public.
The idea of comprehensive method
DOE has taken these goals into account when formulating its standards:
1. Integral LED lamps should be similar to the lights they want to replace; however, the equivalence is not to say that the use of LED technology does not need to inhibit innovation and creativity.
2. Integral LED lamps provide a lot of energy savings than they would like to replace incandescent and halogen lamps.
DOE would like to receive comments from shareholders on any proposed standard, the deadline is February 27th, in particular, the topic of interest is:
1 dimmer (Dimming)
2 non beacon (Non-standard lamps)
3 low pressure MR16
4 reliability test
Standard expected time
February 27, 2009: the first round of shareholder review and recommendation collection
April 2009: publication of the second draft standard
May 2009: collection of second rounds of shareholder proposals
July 2009: announced the final standard
