The U.S. Department of energy (DOE) has released a first round of LED street lamp demonstration project report, LED street lamps installed in the American city of Minnesota Minneapolis bridge. The project shows that this is the first time in the United States to install a LED lighting lamps in an important interstate.
The report of the demonstration project (lighting performance, economic benefits and potential energy conservation).
The main findings of the project include:
LED lamps have a clear uniformity of illumination, and compared with the baseline high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp system, LED lamps can reach 13% of energy savings.
LED lamps have sufficient lighting intensity, compared with the traditional HPS system, LED lamps are more likely to meet the needs of system simulation.
The installation height of 40 feet and the wide coverage area make it necessary for large size LED lamps and relatively high original cost. On the light of the current price, the simple payback period takes a long time.
The overall response of the public to the bridge installation of LED lighting is very positive, positive comments to 5:1 than negative comments.
The U.S. Department of energy will continue to monitor the demonstration project for the next three years, and the final project report will be announced at the end of the project. (http://www.ledsmagazine.com/news/6/8/17)
