Allegro released a new car class highlighting constant current LED driver IC

Allegro released a new highlight, adjustable constant current LED driver to improve its existing display driver IC product line. The LED drive is targeted at the automotive lighting market and is well suited for industrial and consumer LED applications. The new device is designed to operate in general automotive batteries and temperature ranges. Minimum input voltage is 6 V, up to 40 V. Typical applications, linear constant current output can be adjusted up to 350 mA. The ENABLE input is used to start the LED driver, which can be driven by pulse width modulation (PWM) input to adjust the LED brightness. In order to reduce the EMI, the switch can control the conversion rate of the output current. In addition, if the ENABLE pin is held low, it will cause the IC to enter a low quiescent sleep mode. Typical applications of Allegro A6260 include: automotive interior lighting (e.g. reading and ceiling lights), external lighting (e.g. rear end steering lights, brake lights) and trunk lighting. Many of the features of A6260 are also suitable for industrial and consumer highlighting LED lighting applications.

The integrated circuit has been applied to the protection of the multi-layer automobile. IC can be protected from ground short circuit or battery short circuit. The new IC is also built with an overtemperature shutdown circuit (TSD), if the junction temperature reaches ~ 165 C, the circuit will disable the IC. The Allegro A6260 features an integrated battery reverse connect protection function, minimizing the need for external battery diodes.

A6260 also built a temperature monitoring circuit. The circuit monitors the temperature of the chip, which will cause the output current to drop back. The temperature threshold at the beginning of the start can be adjusted by selecting the appropriate resistor on the THTH pin. When a transient overvoltage occurs on the VIN (e.g., load dump or battery), this feature enables the LED driver to perform dynamic protection on its own. If the IC is mounted on the correct substrate and is close to the LED, the function can also be used to help protect the LED from high temperature conditions.
