LED flashing can drive away the birds close to help flight safety

We remember the American Airlines Flight 1549 suffered a bird strike in after an emergency landing in the Hudson river scene, hit the plane is a flock of Canada geese, the birds in the visual stimuli and the human are very different, so it is difficult to use conventional methods to prevent them from flying into the scope of the voyage, but now science has given us a solution that is LED lamp.

Researchers at the U.S. Department of agriculture, the State University of Indiana and the Purdue University have just published a paper on how to scare away birds near the vehicle.

Bird avoidance aircraft help air safety

The team sent three radio controlled aircraft, one of which was a normal aircraft model, one disguised as a predator style, while the last frame with flashing alternating pulse LED light, the frequency of 2Hz.

The results show that when the light flashes, the birds will quickly notice the aircraft and avoid, the effect is better than disguised as predators.

It seems that only the simple things such as LED can reduce the annual loss of billions of dollars in aviation industry, perhaps the future of the airline will accept such a program.
