Korean media: SDC plans to convert L7 LCD factory to manufacture flexible OLED

According to Business Korea, the new head of Samsung Electronics, Kwon Oh-hyun, has quickly begun to change the company's development direction, focusing on flexible OLED and handling some loss-making LCD businesses.

Reports indicate that Samsung has decided to sell at least part of its L7 LCD production line in Chungcheong Province, Asan, and convert some of it into flexible OLED production lines. Samsung plans to invest US$2.56 billion in new flexible OLED production lines by the end of 2017.

Samsung recently decided to double the production capacity of its A3 flexible OLED production line - the company invested approximately US$325 million to increase its production capacity from 15,000 substrates to 30,000 substrates per month. Samsung hopes the new production capacity will take shape in early 2017. The report also said that Samsung was selected by Apple and will launch it in 20 In order to provide OLED panels for Apple's next-generation iPhone in 2017 or 2018, it needs to significantly expand OLED production capacity.
