According to reports, the JBD Hummingbird light engine has an area of only 0.4cc (cubic centimeters) and a weight of only 1.0 grams. It is currently the smallest and lightest light engine in the world. This product can be easily placed into the temples, thereby freeing up more space to define the form and application of the terminal, and meeting consumers' requirements for comfort, trendiness, and functionality.

In addition, the JBD Hummingbird light engine can output more than 4 lumens of light flux. The light engine has a standard field of view of 30° and supports customized field of view angles of 25°~45°. With the optical waveguide, it can achieve an ultra-high brightness of 1,500 nits. The screen content is still clearly visible even under strong outdoor light conditions.

In terms of image quality and display, the Hummingbird light engine still uses a three-color panel combination scheme of R, G, and B. The color depth of each panel has been upgraded from the original 4bit to 8bit, and the display color has been upgraded from the original 4096 colors to 16.77 million colors of full true color, and is equipped with new Gamma and Demura algorithms.

In terms of battery life, thanks to the high light efficiency of JBD Micro LED, the power consumption of this light engine can be as low as 260 milliwatts, which is far lower than the power consumption level of other micro-display technologies on the market, supporting all-day use of AR glasses.

JBD said that thanks to the three core advantages of small size, high brightness and low power consumption, the Hummingbird light engine is regarded as the best solution for consumer AR glasses. This product is ready for launch, and the Hefei factory has completed construction and is about to start production. It is expected to be mass-produced and delivered in Q3 this year.

At this ICDT, JBD also brought about the application of Micro LED in terminals: Li Weike’s AR glasses and vertical-dimensional cubic 3D printing. In the future, JBD will expand more applications of Micro LED in the fields of embedded micro-projection and HUD.

In addition, JBD Chief Operating Officer Dr. Xu Huiwen showed that JBD microdisplay panels include three generations of 0.31-inch, 0.22-inch and 0.13-inch products; 0.13-inch monochrome and color products; and monochrome and color modules formed with different engines and waveguides.

Dr. Xu Huiwen also shared JBD’s many world records in the field of micro-display, including ultra-high pixel density, luminous efficiency of red, green and blue colors, and brightness of three colors. As well as ultra-high brightness of 5 million nits of green light, 500,000 nits of blue light, and 750,000 nits of red light. (Source: JBD)
