Fucai enters AI optical communication and robot sensing applications

Fucai’s strategic layout to attack AI surfaced at the Touch Taiwan 2025 exhibition, focusing on the two major applications of AI optical communication and humanoid robots. Fucai will join hands with its invested companies Dingyuan and Huanyu to enter the market of optical communication transmitter and receiver components, targeting high-speed data transmission needs in large data centers and AI servers. For humanoid robots, it will focus on visual and tactile sensing to enhance its environmental perception capabilities.

As of the fourth quarter of last year, Fucai's cash position increased to NT$14.68 billion, and it has steadily moved towards an asset-light, high value-added operating model. It not only has the resilience to respond to changes in international tariffs, but also paves the way for the company's transformation. After Chairman Peng Shuanglang took office, he promoted asset impairment, subsidiary restructuring and factory consolidation. Its subsidiaries Jingdian and Lextar will officially merge on October 1, and Xinfucai will accelerate the transformation process.

Tang Xiumu, general manager of Jingdian, said that Fucai and its reinvested companies Dingyuan and Huanyu already have the technical capabilities of transmitting and receiving. Now they will integrate the group's resources to comprehensively deploy the three major light sources of Micro LED, VCSEL and InP required for AI optical communication. InP laser is used for GPU external light source, and Fucai has material advantages and mass production experience; VCSEL is used for medium-distance transmission modules in data centers, and Fucai has mature processes and equipment; Micro LED is competitive in short-distance transmission within 10 meters, and the introduction time is expected to be shortened.

On the receiving end, Dingyuan and Huanyuyuan already have light detection capabilities, and VCSEL and Micro LED related products have been jointly developed with customers and have entered the sample delivery stage. Although the AI optical communication verification threshold is relatively high, Fucai has the equipment and processes in place, and is expected to ramp up production quickly after completing the test. Peng Shuanglang expects this area to start contributing to revenue within two to three years.

In addition, Fucai has also extended its optoelectronic technology to key sensing, display and communication technologies for humanoid robots. It combines its own strengths with optical sensing technology to improve the robot's visual performance. Perception accuracy in terms of sense and touch; in terms of display and human-machine interaction, Mini LED and Micro LED are used to improve the display effect and enhance the intuitive interactive experience between robots and humans.
