Diversified LED application development is about to become mainstream

Ruifeng Optoelectronics announced on the evening of August 4 that the company plans to use its own funds to invest in lighting LEDs (including EMC products, LED filaments and small and medium-power LEDs) and full-color LEDs. The total investment in the four major projects reached 430 million, thereby solving the company's short-term production capacity shortage problem and further realizing the company's development strategy of diversified LED applications.

Expand lighting LED production capacity to cope with the LED boom era with lighting applications as the core driving force. This time the company plans to invest in three lighting LED sub-directions, namely lighting LED-EMC products, LED filament and small and medium power LEDs. The production capacity is designed to be 240KK/month, 30KK/month and 700KK/month respectively. It is expected to be completed in mid-2016. The three directions are basically in line with the current future development trends of the LED lighting market, and the prospects are promising.

LED filament bulbs are expected to open up a vast space for home lighting

The so-called LED filament lamp refers to a light bulb made using LED technology to imitate the shape of an incandescent lamp. From a technical point of view, it does not use an aluminum substrate, but uses Si, glass, and sapphire as the base. It looks more like a COB heterosexual package, and the transparent base makes the "filament" look like the tungsten filament of an incandescent lamp glowing around it when it is lit. Compared with ordinary LED light bulbs, filament light bulbs have many advantages. For example, ordinary LED light bulbs have a maximum light-emitting angle of 180° without adding other optical components, while filament light bulbs can achieve 360° light emission. The outer cover of ordinary LED light bulbs is made of translucent plastic, which plays a dimming role, while filament light bulbs use glass covers, which have higher light transmittance, reduce light energy loss, are more energy-saving, and have luminous effects comparable to incandescent lamps, and are more in line with consumer habits. The lighting field is in a stage of rapid growth, with the penetration rate of LED products such as spotlights, fluorescent lamps, and street lamps being between 10% and 15%. According to my country's "Semiconductor Lighting Industry Development Plan", by 2015, all incandescent lamps above 60W used for general lighting in my country will be eliminated, and the market penetration rate of LED functional lighting products will reach 20 % or more, and the LED landscape lighting market penetration rate reaches more than 80%. Trends such as incandescent lamp replacement, energy-saving lighting, and smart lighting will promote the high prosperity of LED lighting in the next 2-3 years.

In the past two years, LED display technology has gradually matured. The cost of a single LED lamp has been declining, the luminous efficiency has been continuously improved, and the chromaticity and brightness are more uniform. The LED display screen has gradually conquered the traditional large-screen wall-mounting market. It has become an irreversible trend to replace DLP, LCD, PDP and other display technologies. The advantages of LED display screens such as high definition, high brightness, and brilliant colors have created a commercial market for outdoor advertising media and opened up a larger market space for LED applications. In 2013, the total output value of China's LED display market was approximately 30 billion yuan, which is one of the main application areas of the LED industry. About 80% of the world's display screens are produced by Chinese companies and sold around the world. In the future, the company will continue to expand its market share in the field of full-color display, and the prospects are promising.

Scale effect and cost-effectiveness have become powerful tools for companies to cope with fierce competition. In 2013, the company's main revenue sources were lighting LEDs and medium and large-sized LED backlights, accounting for more than 90% of total revenue. However, due to fierce competition in the lighting product market and declining product prices, the company's product gross profit margin continued to decline, from 16.9% to 13.2%.
