BOE plans to invest US$400 million to build a factory in Vietnam to mainly supply screens for Apple?

January 11, according to ifeng.com Technology News, people familiar with the matter said that display screen manufacturer BOE Technology Group plans to invest a large amount of money to build two factories in Vietnam, and the total investment may be as high as 400 million US dollars. BOE is also a supplier to Apple and Samsung Electronics.

BOE is negotiating to lease hundreds of hectares of land in northern Vietnam to expand its relatively small factory in southern Vietnam, people familiar with the matter said. The factory mainly supplies TV screens to South Korea's Samsung and LG Electronics.

Northern Vietnam has attracted significant investment from electronics giants in recent years, becoming a major production center for smartphones, computers and cameras, including flagship products from Apple and Samsung. Apple OEMs Hon Hai Precision and Luxshare Precision also produce or plan to assemble a series of Apple laptops, tablets and other products here.

Informed sources revealed that BOE plans to rent up to 100 square meters>> of the land, 20% of which was used to build a factory to produce remote control systems at a cost of US$150 million. The remaining land will be used to build a display factory. BOE will spend US$250 million to build a factory on 50 square meters of land, and the remaining 30 square meters of land will be used by suppliers. All this will be completed by 2025.

It is understood that BOE’s Vietnam factory plan is not specifically to supply screens for Apple. BOE and Apple declined to comment.
