The United States Department of energy (DOE) recently announced the provision of four funds, as part of its small business innovation research (SBIR) program. Recently the funds are used for recognition of solid-state lighting (SSL) technology in progress, and the funding plan for the OLED project, Corp, Plextronics obtained by Litecontrol Inc, InnoSys Inc and Universal Display Corp four companies.
Litecontrols company called innovation OLED light source system for professional lighting applications, the company is currently the color rendering requirements higher corridor and public places to develop OLED lamps; and Universal Display is developed for aircraft cabin of low energy consumption light laminate, is expected to be listed in 2015. Recently, the company is working with IDDAerospace to carry out a new energy saving phosphorescent OLED lighting products. InnoSys is about to embark on a project called "high efficiency phosphorescent OLED lighting panel power" project, which aims to extend the OLED technology to the mainstream lighting industry such as residential, commercial and industrial environments. Most OLED manufacturers currently offer standard LED drivers for their products, but the full use of the OLED device may also require the design of customized drive. Plextronics's project is focused on reducing the cost of large area OLED panel, which is the biggest obstacle to the promotion of OLED technology. "For the low cost of the OLED lamp electrode printed program using inkjet technology and conductive silver ink simplified manufacturing process of anode structure. It is said that this technology can be used to eliminate some of the photolithography process to improve manufacturing output.
U.S. Department of energy will continue to provide funding for LED research. Compared with the LED, OLED in the light output and efficiency behind a few years, but the inherent diffusion of OLED optical output power or will be a place in some lighting applications. The funding is part of the first phase of the Congressional appropriations. DOESSL plans to pay special attention to energy conservation in lighting applications, in addition, the U.S. Department of energy in the United States, a National Academy of Sciences report stressed the importance of DOE in promoting the deployment of SSL aspects.
