According to foreign media reports, the United States Michigan State University recently announced a new research results LED. This study is about the impact of lighting (long-day lighting, LDL) on milk production based on the LED lighting technology, and the results show that milk production has increased by over the past year.
The study was conducted by researchers from the Department of biological and agricultural engineering, University of Michigan, and the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA).
Prior to this, we have come to understand that LED based solid-state lighting products in the field of life science applications more and more. LED lighting is not only used to improve the productivity of poultry, but also can be used to improve the growth of indoor plants.

Over the past 33 years of research, it has been shown that prolonged lighting does have a positive effect on milk production. Long time lighting means, first light up to 16-18 hours of dairy cows (15-20 light FOOTCANDLE) irradiation, then 6-8 hours of dark (light intensity of 3 footcandles or less) irradiation.
However, due to technical constraints, Michigan dairy farmers can not accurately measure and maintain the light, and the lack of suitable lighting control system, so it can not really benefit from the "long time lighting". Now, with LED lighting, automatic sensors and automated control systems, Michigan Wing Acres dairy farms to build a truly accurate operation of the LDL system, officially opened in January 2014.
In addition to increase the milk yield of 8%, LED lighting energy saving effect is obvious and easy to control. Compared to previously used metal halide lamps, lighting energy costs by 50%, coupled with the increase in milk production income, a farm as long as more than a year to recover the cost of investment in the transformation of LED.
LED lighting can also bring other additional benefits, compared with metal halide lamps, LED lamps can be adjusted directly to provide the required light below the 3 foot candle farm. In addition, LED lamps in a relatively harsh environment more reliable, less maintenance needs. Interestingly, dairy farmers said that after the transformation of the lighting seems to be more docile cows. (compile / China LED network Flora)
