LightingEurope (merged by the European Union and European lamps lamp manufacturers association, the European lighting industry voice) had lobbied the EU delayed elimination of halogen lamps by 2020, but the EU said that 2018 is the acceptable compromise period, which will enable the LED lighting industry developed more affordable replacement bulbs instead of halogen lamps.
The European Commission (EC) announced the day before, the new proposal committee members agreed to postpone the ban, a halogen lamp, until September 2018. LightingEurope is committed to the organization on behalf of the European lighting industry interests, reform problems produced by LED, lobbied for the Commission to postpone the ban until 2020, but the latest statement said will be initially set for September 2016 until September 2018.
LightingEurope at the end of 2014 has repeatedly issued a document out of question of the halogen lamp is scheduled for 2016, and even questioned even until 2018 if you have enough time to develop LED products to meet the economic applicable requirements. The group questioned whether solid state lighting (SSL) alternatives could meet a replacement program that matches the output of the halogen lamp. In addition, the high price of LED products could mean that consumers can not afford to buy new lamps. As a result, LightingEurope suggested that the ban on time before 2020 may not be able to meet up to 200 million lamps installed throughout europe.
The ban until 2018 will affect the non directional halogen lamp from the AC power supply. Halogen lamp directional halogen lamp and other special forms will not be within the date of ordering. The European Commission said switching to LED lights could save 115 euros (about $766) over a 20 year life span. But the committee also acknowledged that the delay to 2018 will have a more compelling economic effect.
LightingEurope Secretary General Diederik de Stoppelaar said: "although 2020 is the ideal date for phasing out the halogen lamp, but 2018 is also an acceptable compromise. Consumers have to recognize that alternative development technologies will take time to be fully realized, and later to be widely used on the market. "
