Recently, the United States next generation lighting industry alliance (NGLIA) working group issued the third edition of the solid state lighting industry guidance report - "LED lamp life: Test and report recommendations". The new report updates the team's recommendations on the life and reliability of solid state lighting products.
NGLIA was founded in 2005, mainly to guide the development of DOE solid state lighting projects, and jointly promote the deployment of LED lighting products to reduce the energy consumption of lighting.
The report notes that recording and predicting the life of solid state lighting products is very challenging. Industry has long been introduced LED performance testing standards, such as LM-80 and TM-21. Currently, other testing standards such as LM-79, LM-84 and TM-28, has further improved the lamp and lamp design report.

However, there are many factors leading to the damage of solid-state lighting products, in addition to the light source, there are some other possibility of failure (pictured above). The report also pointed out that the current industry to maintain color test and accelerated life testing is still lacking.
In addition, the report gives the following new recommendations:
1 report that, in the definition of LED lighting products service life, color and light output should be considered together; previously, color is often regarded as a factor of the product end of life and excluded.
2 industry should be classified according to the specified level of color stability: lamps, standard grade lamps and standard grade lamps.
3 the statistical system approach to the reliability of the original product should be abandoned because it has not been applied to the design and application of a variety of lamps.
4 similarly, the report argues that there is no consistent way to define the standard lamp life, and adding such an indicator for the DOE Lighting Facts project has no practical significance. (/LEDinside Flora)
