GT, Arizona, a company called Advanced Technologies on Monday (4 May) announced that it has signed a multi-year supply agreement on sapphire material with Apple Corp.
Currently, sapphire material has become an important component of iPhone. All iPhone camera modules are required in sapphire material, and iPhone 5S fingerprint recognition equipment also used this material.
Under the agreement, GT Advanced Technologies will purchase and operate sapphire material production equipment, these devices will be installed in the new factory of Apple Corp. In return, Apple Corp will pay about $578 million to the GT Advanced Technologies, which will begin in 2015 from the Apple Corp to reimburse the relevant expenses for the past 5 years.
Apple Corp spokesman Christine Huguette (Kristin Huguet), said: with the new facilities in Arizona, we are pleased to expand domestic production activities. This will create more than 2000 engineering, manufacturing and construction jobs. The new plant will be the production of components for Apple Corp products, from the first day of the use of renewable energy 100%. "
When the plant is put into operation, about 700 people will be recruited, and mass production of sapphire material. As part of the agreement, GT Advanced Technologies will track the next generation, the development of high yield equipment, so as to provide low-cost, high-volume sapphire material manufacturing services to Apple Corp". This shows that Apple Corp plans to use sapphire material in the next generation of touch screen devices.
