Samsung Electronics renews contract with Olympic Committee: sponsorship period extended to 2020

  On August 17, 2014, China's Nanjing Samsung Electronics officially became the sponsor of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Samsung Electronics signed a new contract with the International Olympic Committee ("IOC" or "IOC") in Nanjing, China on the 17th, extending the cooperation between the two sides until 2020.

Samsung Electronics Vice President Lee Jae-yong, Vice President Lee Young-hee, Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and others attended the Olympic Games sponsor signing ceremony. With this extension of the Olympic Games sponsorship agreement, Samsung Electronics has further consolidated its partnership to showcase technological innovation and carry forward the Olympic passion.

On August 17, Samsung Electronics and the International Olympic Committee renewed their sponsorship agreement in Nanjing, the host city of the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in China. The two parties extended their cooperative relationship to the 2020 Olympic Games. By signing the Galaxy Note Pro tablet, the two parties will strengthen their partnership and expand Samsung Electronics' product sponsorship categories at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Samsung Electronics was a regional sponsor of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Later, in order to enhance the image and brand value of its multinational company, it signed the Olympic Global Partner Program (TOP) with IOC for the first time in 1997.

After that, Samsung Electronics became an Olympic sponsor in the field of wireless communications for nine consecutive times from the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics in Japan to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. With this signing, Samsung Electronics will become an Olympic partner with more than 20 years of sponsorship activity.

It is worth noting that Samsung Electronics’ sponsorship of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be expanded to include smartphones, tablets, notebooks, PCs, printers and other fields.

Samsung Electronics will create an easy-to-use mobile network environment for Olympic venues, allowing athletes to fully utilize their abilities and interact closely with fans.

Through this extension of sponsorship, Samsung Electronics will further strengthen its global sports marketing strategy, further consolidate the image of "Olympic = Samsung Electronics", and help to enhance the value of the Olympic Games.
