Since March, the price of rare earths has increased 10 times. Energy-saving lighting has high efficiency, energy saving, good color rendering and long life. Compared with ordinary incandescent lamps, energy-saving lamps can save 60%-80% of electricity and have a service life 4-6 times longer. Energy-saving lamps are a type of fluorescent lamp. They achieve the purpose of emitting light by stimulating the phosphor coating on the inner wall of the lamp tube with ultraviolet rays. The phosphor coating on the wall of the lamp accounts for more than 75% of the raw material. Since April this year, rare earth prices have skyrocketed.
"In March, it was still 280 yuan per kilogram, and now it has risen to 2,600 yuan per kilogram. Good quality is even more expensive." A person in charge said that this has seriously affected the development of the energy-saving lamp industry. A 100W ordinary energy-saving lamp sells for 28 yuan, while an incandescent lamp with the same brightness on the market only costs 1.5 yuan or 2 yuan. Therefore, some companies rely heavily on government subsidies.
It is reported that the subsidy amount for an energy-saving lamp can reach 50% of its ex-factory price. In addition, local governments will also provide a certain proportion of financial subsidies when promoting energy-saving lamps. Under subsidies, the price of energy-saving lamps below 45W is comparable to that of ordinary incandescent lamps. However, this balance has been broken by this round of price increases. LED lamps are expected to shoulder the burden of energy conservation. The rise in raw material prices has caused serious "internal damage" to energy-saving lamps, but has inadvertently provided space for the development of LED lamps.
"Silicon used to make LED lamps is very common on the earth. The rare earths used to make an LED chip are measured in micrograms, while energy-saving lamps require several grams." More importantly, the price difference between the two is shrinking. Take the most popular compact energy-saving lamps for household use as an example. The price used to be more than ten yuan a piece, but now it has risen to more than 30 yuan. The price of LED lamps with the same power used to be about 80 yuan, but recently it has dropped to 50 yuan. "Faced with a price difference of 20 yuan, many people prefer LED lamps because they are more energy-saving, controllable, and mercury-free, so they tend to buy LED lamps," Li Shuzhi said.
LED is more energy-saving and environmentally friendly than energy-saving lamps, and the price may decrease by 20% every year in the future. It is an inevitable trend to replace energy-saving lamps with LED lamps. Many manufacturers have transferred from the energy-saving lamp industry to the LED industry. Small businesses with energy-saving lamps should take the initiative to adjust. Those most affected by this round of price increases are undoubtedly small businesses that produce energy-saving lamps.
There are reports that many energy-saving lamp companies in Fujian and Zhejiang have closed down as a result. The energy-saving lamp industry is a labor-intensive industry with problems such as low technical level, high cost, and heavy pollution. Rare earths are precious strategic resources of the country, and raw material prices remain high. Liang Yueshan believes that far-sighted small and medium-sized enterprises with energy-saving lamps should take the initiative to adjust and develop new energy-saving products such as LED lamps with higher technological content, more environmental protection, more energy saving and more development prospects.
