OLED inventor Deng Qingyun: OLED features and challenges

Deng Qingyun said, compared with LCD, OLED has more simple structure, does not require a backlight, filter and protection layer, has the advantages of high brightness, wide spectrum, low power, and can be made thin and flexible displays, coupled with high contrast and fast response, the structure of all solid close contact, not sensitive the atmospheric pressure therefore more broad applicable environment and other characteristics, the OLED is as a new generation of display technology rapid rise.

Currently, the challenge facing OLED is the application of OLED on how to replace LCD as a new screen material is a problem that needs to be addressed. LCD is likely to be replaced, because it is very complex, there are many layers of structure, such as some enhanced bright film, so that it can be very beautiful display. The OLED is only two layers, the power can be light after the light-emitting layer of different materials. At present, according to market forecast data show that by 2016, the number of OLED TV display will continue to grow.

For OLED applications in lighting it has a high color efficiency, when the power off it will appear black. For different applications, the characteristics of OLED can be presented as an advantage or a disadvantage. Since it is a scattered light source, it cannot be used as a point light source. At present, OLED as a light source, the price is very expensive, 1000lm luminous flux price reached $800, while LED only need $16. Therefore, OLED must reduce costs in order to be more competitive.

In addition, LED has a lot of blue light, but the lack of green light. OLED green light is very much, very little blue, so you can make a very soft light.

For the future application of OLED, Deng Qingyun hopes to reduce the price of OLED, and enhance its performance, and ultimately promote its large-scale application in the field of lighting and display.
