EGA negotiation Taiwan spell LED lighting Zero Tariff

WTO Taiwan environmental goods agreement will send a delegation to attend the June 15 to 19 in Switzerland, at the headquarters of Geneva WTO (EGA) seventh round of negotiations, will strive to LED lighting and bicycle into the duty-free list, will contribute to the export of related products.

According to the Taiwan industry estimates, last year, Taiwan's total exports of LED lighting and bicycle products were $1 billion 537 million and $2 billion 780 million.

Taiwan, Australia, Canada, Chinese China, Costa Rica, EU, Hongkong, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, the United States a total of 14 WTO members last July 8th at the WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland jointly announced the official launch EGA negotiations, and in January 24th last year, Davos Switzerland (Davos) joint declaration revealed APEC 54 environmental goods as the basis for further liberalization.

Ministry of economic affairs officials said that the 17 countries will focus on environmental protection products, energy conservation and recycling, environmental protection related industries, each country depending on its development and industry situation put forward their own list.

In all Member States of the list there is no intersection, but also to be among countries lobbying to build consensus, Yang Zhenni evaluation, because the current negotiations are still at an early stage, is expected to take 2 years to complete the negotiations.

Because the current Taiwan foreign FTA (FTA) slow progress, expand the export market disruption, talks on the EGA said officials in Taiwan also, because Taiwan is export-oriented economy, whether bilateral, plurilateral or multilateral negotiations, as long as the reduction of tariffs on Taiwan would be beneficial.
