Compared with the traditional lighting technology with various LED lighting, in energy saving and improve the quality of lighting has better potential. However, in order to accurately evaluate the effect of a lighting technology on energy saving and environmental protection, it is necessary to evaluate the whole process of the resource and energy consumption of the product from the processing to the waste disposal. Recently, the U.S. Department of energy on the existing lighting product life cycle research based on the data on the incandescent lamp, energy-saving lamps, LED lamps (CFL) from production and transportation to the total energy consumption of the end use link to compare, and released a program called "incandescent lamp, compact energy saving Research Report" comparative study the energy consumption of lamps and LED lamps in the whole life cycle of the.
Evaluate the three stages of the comparison process
1 Comparison of energy consumption between LED lamps and other types of lamps based on the existing life cycle assessment (LCA) literature;
2.LED life cycle studies include direct or indirect material inputs and process inputs in production, transportation, use and disposal;
3 all kinds of lamps and lanterns are studied from the aspects of purchase, disassembly and assembly and chemical detection to detect whether there is a potential hazardous substance accumulation, which is beyond the discharge standard of hazardous substances.
The potential imbalance between upstream energy consumption and downstream energy conservation has led some organizations to adopt life cycle analysis to quantify the impact of LED lighting products on energy consumption in their life cycle. The objective of this report is to evaluate the energy consumption differences between LED lamps and other types of lamps based on previous studies. The report analyzes several existing life cycle assessment studies, including academic publications, including production reports and independent research reports. The report analyzes the following three questions:
What is the energy consumption of each stage (production, transportation, etc.) of 1.LED lamps in their life cycle?
How is the energy consumption of 2.LED lamp life cycle different from incandescent lamp and CFL?
3.LED lighting products in the life cycle of energy consumption in the future what will be the trend of change?
The report is the United States Department of energy for the first time launched a larger research project to study the different lighting technology production, circulation, use of the entire process of resource and environmental consumption. Most of the research data used in the report comes from the whole process of energy consumption. In order to conduct a comprehensive comparative study of the energy consumption of the whole life cycle of various lighting products, there are as many as 10 kinds of public research materials cited in the report.
Incandescent lamps, energy saving lamps, LED lamps represent different lighting technology, according to the production of these products have their own performance characteristics. As mentioned earlier, the 10 life cycle analysis cited in the report is a study of a large number of different specifications, different types of lamps. Therefore, when evaluating the energy consumption of each luminaire, the existing performance characteristics of the incandescent lamp and CFL are based on the analysis of the existing literature. For LED lamps, in order to make the feasibility analysis and taking into account the analysis of future products, performance characteristics of LED products is issued according to the U.S. Department of energy's "2011 years DOE semiconductor lighting plan".
Because the lumen output and the service life of each lamp are not the same, in order to ensure the consistency of the product life cycle energy consumption analysis, a kind of functional unit named 20 million lumens is selected in the study. This unit represents a 60W LED lighting lamps in the use of the services provided by the life period. Because the service life of the incandescent lamp and CFL is much shorter than that of the LED lamp, the single incandescent lamp or CFL is much less than the lighting service provided by the above functional units. Therefore, it is necessary to use a number of lamps in order to achieve the same amount of lighting effect, so the life cycle of the whole process of energy consumption will be measured by a single lamp energy consumption multiplied by the number of lights.
Calculation of energy consumption in different stages
Energy consumption in the production stage, including the acquisition of raw materials, processing of raw materials, production, processing and assembly. The energy consumption of incandescent lamp, CFL, LED lamp production stage, based on the existing LCA research. These data include the direct estimation of energy consumption and production stage, because energy consumption caused by carbon dioxide emissions, consumption data also includes the energy resolution of lighting devices (including inventory consumption).
The stage of transportation is the process of packing the products from the production workshop to the retail terminal. The transportation of raw materials and other materials before production is regarded as the production stage. There are few studies on the impact of product transportation process on energy consumption. Therefore, the energy consumption of the transport phase in the report is independent of the analytical study. In order to calculate the energy consumption in the transportation process, the origin of each lighting product should be taken into account. Therefore, this study takes into account the length of the transport distance, the type and the load of the vehicle, and calculates the energy consumption of each functional unit in the process of transportation.
The measurement of energy consumption is based on the data of different lighting products, such as rated power and lumen output. However, it is time consuming to evaluate the use of the product, and the energy independence and security act of 2007 should be considered.
