Light Wave Company, a subsidiary of the Tamura Manufacturing Group, demonstrated a developed LED lighting product with a built-in 24GHz radar at CEATEC JAPAN 2015, held at the Makuhari MESSE International Convention and Exhibition Center from October 7 to 10. Its characteristic is that it can sense movements of several millimeters. In addition to being used as a high-precision sensor with better accuracy than ordinary infrared human sensors, it can also be used to detect breathing status.
Detecting breathing is based on the up and down movement of the chest and abdomen. The user can also detect it while covering himself with a quilt. When installed at a height of 2.4m, the detection range is 1m×2m, and one light can cover a lying user. Because it is integrated with lighting, no batteries or new power cords are required. It will not make users unhappy with the monitoring, nor will it be damaged by accidental touches by users.
The envisaged output method is that the detection results are sent to the server via wireless communication and notified to a specific terminal device. Notifications such as the flickering of lighting can also be used. You can observe states such as getting out of bed, lying down, sitting quietly, and states such as respiratory arrest. Tamura Manufacturing believes that in addition to replacing inspections of nursing care facilities and hospitals, this LED lighting can also be used for home inspections of sleep apnea syndrome and other purposes.
