Osaka Prefecture University in September 17, 2014 to open the "green clock of Osaka Prefecture University, a new generation (GCN) plant" in the internal situation (Figure 1). The plant uses PHILPS electronics Japan (Headquarters: Tokyo, referred to as PHILPS) to develop plant cultivation LED. The plant was built in the campus of Osaka Prefecture University, the fifth largest plant in Japan, opened in September 19th, in early October officially put into production. PHILPS hopes to accumulate experience in the plant plant in order to sell products in japan.

The plant uses 13000 PHILPS GreenPower LED Production Module". This is the first volume of the product is equipped with far infrared (wavelength in the vicinity of 750nm) LED chip lighting, can emit red light, blue light, white light and far infrared light 4 (Figure 2). The lighting used in plants is usually red, blue and white, because red light and blue light are more conducive to plant photosynthesis. In the meantime, the use of far infrared light, can make the process of plant growth leaves complete shape, improve the efficiency of photosynthesis, accelerate the growth rate. The Osaka Prefecture University said: "because it can promote the growth of plants, and has excellent waterproof and dustproof" (plant factory director of Osaka Prefecture University Abu Masahito Research Center), so using GreenPower LED Production Module.

The plant lettuce and other plants from sowing to harvest only about 40 days. According to the company, compared with ordinary fluorescent lamps, this lighting can shorten the cultivation time of up to 20%, power consumption can be reduced by 55%. Because of the small amount of heat, the utility model can also save the air conditioner used for managing the temperature.
The plant factory is by Osaka Prefecture University and other enterprises at last voted to build a cooperative project. Covers an area of about 1300m2, can produce 5000 green leafy vegetables such as lettuce. The production of vegetables will be known as the "garden vegetables" brand direct supply in Osaka supermarkets and restaurants (Figure 3). Due to the small number of bacteria on the vegetables, transport distance is short, so the preservation time is nearly 2 times the open-air cultivation of vegetables. Although the price will be higher than ordinary vegetables, but will ensure quality and establish a stable supply system for commercial operation. If there is demand, can also be produced without potassium (K) vegetables and other high value-added vegetables.
