Wafer foundry to improve the use of "backward technology" wafer prices

Analysts said, because of the backward process chip market "the sudden demand growth, the major silicon foundry is said to have to raise its price. The main wafer foundries increase their wafer prices for individual products (product-by-product) and individual customers (customer-by-customer), using 0.35, 0.25 and 0.18 micron technology.

"The foundry's situation is different," market research company Semico Research Corp. analyst Joanne Itow said. She warned that, according to the current forecast, the use of advanced 130 nanometer technology production of wafer prices may rise.

For a period of time, manufacturers have been reluctant to invest in backward equipment, so the market demand growth was suddenly be taken by surprise. Allegedly, Chartered Semiconductor (Chartered Semiconductor), TSMC and other major foundries have been or are considering to improve some of the backward technology (trailing-edge) product prices.

Semico said 2005 is expected to total silicon foundry demand growth is disappointing, but is expected to rebound in 2006. Indeed, the wind direction of the industry has changed. Some products and processes appear subtle but destructive price war, so silicon wafer foundry industry has been plagued. This will lead to a decline in wafer prices in the remainder of 2005.

Due to a slowdown in industrial growth, silicon foundry has been carried out for several months in terms of price competition. Some analysts claim that mainland Chinese start-ups are the main cause of price wars. The main wafer foundry declined to comment on the price trend, but said the demand for leading and lagging process wafer growth.

"Mature technology of production has been hype (from the perspective of the capacity utilization rate)." Kuen, vice president of field engineering, said Chow. "We also see a strong demand for 130 and 90 nm wafers," he said." Singapore chartered Kevin vice president of global marketing and Platform Alliance Meyer said, for the mature technology demand was particularly strong, "there are a lot of new application demand."

For example, currently used to display the handheld device driver chip (display driver) is based on advanced technology, but the high voltage technology.
