In the first half of 2014, the total output value of Guangdong's LED industry reached 154.546 billion yuan, and the province's exports of key LED products reached 38.277 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.35%.
The Guangdong Semiconductor Lighting Industry Joint Innovation Center and the Guangdong Emerging Industry Strategic Development Research Institute released the "Guangdong LED Industry Operation Monitoring Report for the Second Quarter of 2014" in Guangzhou on the 6th, which revealed the above information.
Since Guangdong took the lead in launching the LED lighting demonstration project in the country in 2008, Guangdong has promoted and applied a total of 1.3 million LED street lamps, more than 2 million indoor LED lighting products, and more than 30,000 kilometers of demonstration road sections. The overall energy saving is 55%, and it has accumulated experience for the large-scale, standardized production and application of LED products. Since this year, the scale of Guangdong's LED industry has continued to expand.
The report shows that although the total output value increased by more than 20% year-on-year, from the perspective of composition, midstream and downstream products are still the main component. Among them, the output value of LED lighting fixtures was 34.008 billion yuan, accounting for 22.00% of the total output value; LED accessories materials were 28.709 billion yuan, accounting for 18.58% of the total output value; LED packaging components were 23.790 billion yuan, accounting for 15.39% of the total output value. The total output value of the three industries totaled 86.507 billion yuan, accounting for 55.97% of the total output value.
In terms of growth rate, LED lighting fixtures, LED packaging components, and LED displays are leading the growth rate, and the output value of the three categories of products all increased by more than 26% year-on-year. In addition, research on a number of core technologies such as key visible light communication technologies, chip-scale light sources (CSP), white LED chips, and flip-chip multi-chip integrated modules (FCOB) will provide sufficient impetus for the sustainable development of Guangdong's LED industry in the future.
In the first half of 2014, Guangdong Province's import and export declined severely, with the total import and export volume reaching US$472.15 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 14.9%. But at the same time, Guangdong's LED industry performed well. According to the monitoring of the top ten key areas of LED exports in Guangdong Province, in the first half of the year, the export value of Guangdong's key LED field products reached 38.277 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.35%. Among them, exports in the first quarter were 17.838 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 40.97%, and exports in the second quarter were 20.439 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 37.97%.
Analysts said that although the development of Guangdong's LED industry has achieved gratifying results in the first half of the year, it also faces some problems that need to be solved urgently, such as the overall weak original innovation capability, low conversion rate of scientific and technological achievements, uncoordinated regional industrial development, and lack of high-skilled compound talents. As the development of the LED industry further matures, the development of Guangdong's LED industry is expected to maintain a steady growth trend in the future.
