Peking University Institute of Optoelectronics establishes Light Health Application R&D Center

Recently, the Light Health Application R&D Center of Peking University Dongguan Institute of Optoelectronics was officially unveiled. The R&D center will be committed to promoting the development and application of light health products and leading the development of the industry.

Wang Qi, executive vice president of the institute, said in his speech that the institute is a well-known optical application research and development and project incubation institution in China. Under the leadership of many well-known scholars from Peking University, relying on preliminary experimental data and research and development results, it focuses on the big health industry and is committed to promoting and improving the technical application and industrial development of optical technology in fields related to promoting human health. The light health application research and development center established this time is an open and inclusive platform. Enterprises in the optical-related industries and industries are welcome to join in the construction and promote the vigorous development of the industry.

According to reports, the Light Health Application R&D Center of Peking University Dongguan Institute of Optoelectronics is a key laboratory directly under the institute. It is led by Zhang Guoyi, a professor at the School of Physics at Peking University and a famous physicist, and serves as the chief scientist.

Since 2008, the existing scientific research team of the R&D center has been committed to the research and development of the deep mechanisms of light and human health. It is one of the first professional teams in China to start research and development in the field of light health.

At present, the R&D center has accumulated a large amount of R&D data and experimental results in the aspects of light on human energy synthesis, rhythm regulation, nutrient absorption, damage repair, and emotional control. It has achieved the effect of maintaining the biological rhythm of continuous shift workers in a confined space for 38 days, while maintaining normal vitamin D levels. It has also developed a light source with a blue light damage coefficient as low as 0.06, and has obtained dozens of patents in related fields.

Especially regarding the treatment of depression by specific light waves, a complete double-blind experiment was conducted with the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Peking University, a domestic mental health authority. Lighting significantly enhanced the effect of medication in treating depression. In the future, under the leadership of Professor Zhang Guoyi, the R&D center will strengthen research and development, use light as a carrier, focus on general health, promote the industrial application of existing scientific research results, and make greater contributions to the development of the domestic light health field.
