OSRAM Limited by Share Ltd (OSRAM AG) in Germany recently held a groundbreaking ceremony, the new plant in Wuxi. The move will further expand OSRAM's business activities in the world's largest single lighting market. The back-end plant is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2013, the main business for the LED chip shell packaging, and its two in Penang (Regensburg) in Germany and the front end of the factory continues to produce LED chips.
Dane, chairman and chief executive officer of OSRAM Dehen (Wolfgang), said: China has become the world's largest lighting market, the market has great potential. The new package will help OSRAM to better integrate into the mainland market and maintain steady growth, and further enhance OSRAM's global market position. "
Jiangsu governor Li Xueyong also said: "the development of Jiangsu LED industry is very rapid, and has been in the forefront of the provinces and cities in mainland, through co-operation between the two sides, the climax of industry development will usher in a new round of LED. Over the past 20 years, Wuxi new area has become the mainland's largest semiconductor production base. The presence of OSRAM, will further enhance the development and production of Wuxi LED and semiconductor lighting and other related industries, production and service levels. New district will fully support the development of OSRAM in Wuxi, I wish the new plant put into operation as soon as possible. "
OSRAM in May 2012 with the Wuxi New District Administrative Committee signed a contract, the construction also marks the beginning of the construction of 100 thousand square meters plant. OSRAM is expected to invest hundreds of millions of euros in the next 5 years, but also will continue to maintain a comprehensive partnership with mainland partners. After full production, the number of new packaging plant employees will reach 1600.
The latest research shows that Asia's share of the market in the general lighting market has now accounted for about 35% of the global total, is expected to increase to 2012 by up to 45%. OSRAM has more than 16000 employees in the Asia Pacific region, OSRAM fiscal year 2011 about 1/5 of the revenue from the Asia Pacific region; the total number of employees in the Asia Pacific region OSRAM more than any other region of the world, half of which are Chinese employees.
