Korean media: BOE enters OLED display panel market

On May 12, according to Korean media ETnews, BOE will supply 24.5-inch W-OLED panels to Asus this year.

A person in the display industry said: "Asus has been looking for a supplier of 24.5-inch OLED display panels and finally found BOE. They plan to produce and supply these panels from the 8.5-generation pilot production line in Hefei this year, but the quantity is very limited."

If the news is true, this is the first time that BOE has supplied W-OLED panels for mass production products, and it is also the first time that a Chinese company has entered the OLED display market that was previously monopolized by Korean companies.

Unlike medium- and small-sized OLEDs that use fine metal mask (FMM) evaporation technology to achieve color, large-sized OLEDs are characterized by open-mask-based OLED display technology.

Among them, large-size OLED technology is roughly divided into two categories: QD-OLED and W-OLED. The difference between these two technologies lies in their color rendering methods. QD-OLED uses blue OLED as the light source and combines the QD layer with inkjet to express colors; while W-OLED uses a white OLED plus color filter structure.

According to TrendForce research data, global OLED display shipments will reach 2.735 million units in 2025, with an annual growth rate of 92%. In terms of brands, Asus will have a market share of 21.6% in 2025, Samsung 19.3%, MSI 13.1%, LG Electronics 12.6%, and Dell 9.9%.

Looking forward to 2026, as brands strengthen innovation and marketing strategies continue to ferment, it is expected to create an annual growth of 51% in annual shipments. (Source: ETnews, compiled by TrendForce Display)
