On March 12, Japan Display Corporation (JDI) announced the cancellation of its plan to spin off its automotive display business.
Looking back at the prospects, JDI stated in May 2025 that major strategic adjustments must be made to get rid of the long-term loss situation in the display industry with fierce global competition. Under the "BEYOND DISPLAY" growth strategy, JDI is promoting a thorough restructuring of the company's business to drive rapid profitability and sustainable growth. On the one hand, the company has significantly reduced display business costs, and on the other hand, it is relying on its own technology accumulation to accelerate its deployment in the high-growth advanced semiconductor packaging and sensor fields.
Based on this strategy, JDI originally planned to spin off its automotive business and transfer it to the newly established wholly-owned subsidiary AutoTech Inc., and provide OEM services from the Ishikawa plant.
In response to the decision to cancel the spin-off, JDI stated that the original intention of establishing the AutoTech subsidiary was to speed up decision-making and create a more flexible operating system for the automotive display business. However, after the announcement, taking into account the changes in the business environment and the current management status, it was ultimately believed that maintaining integrated business operations would enable us to more flexibly respond to production needs, allocate resources more efficiently, and thus better seize growth opportunities.
At the same time, in order to fulfill relevant approval procedures such as regular shareholders' meetings, JDI also decided to extend the effective date of the new spin-off to July 1, 2026.
