In the era of the metaverse, Micro-LED holographic screens from US have become the new favorite in the transparent display industry

More than half of November 2022 has passed, and this year has entered a countdown.

In the coming 2023, what trends will the LED transparent screen, a semiconductor subdivision vertical industry, face? Perhaps at the just past Hi-Tech Fair (the 24th China International High-Tech Fair), we can get a glimpse of it through those innovative new products.

Time goes back to November 15th to 19th. Companies from all walks of life in the science and technology world, including those engaged in the Internet of Things, those engaged in metaverse, those engaged in cloud computing, those engaged in artificial intelligence, those engaged in 5G, those engaged in Internet of Vehicles... Everyone gathered at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, taking out the most technological products in the box, competing for the best. Although various conditions must be met to visit due to the epidemic, they still could not resist people's enthusiasm. They lined up in a long line just to participate in this annual technology feast.

In Hall 3, a product called LED holographic screen became this year’s “hall star” and attracted intense coverage from Chinese and foreign media. It is the world's first LED holographic screen released by Shenzhen Meisi Micro Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (abbreviation: Meisi Micro), a leading domestic semiconductor company. It comes with popular tags: "Yuan Universe", "Black Technology", "World's First", "Independent Research and Development"... Some media commented: This is what national fashion products should look like.

The screen of this LED holographic screen is composed of two parts, which is a special circuit board independently developed by Meisi Micro and a light driver integrated LED with Meisi Micro's independent intellectual property rights. It looks very thin and light, and can be directly assembled and installed in a modular manner and adsorbed on transparent glass. The transparency rate is as high as 80%, making the entire glass a "screen" when displayed and a "transparent film" when the lights are turned off. It is very cool to use and full of black technology.

Another feature of it is that it can achieve naked-eye 3D images. This is based on the long exploration of the R&D team, and finally the perfect combination of LED display and structural design to achieve a holographic immersive effect. When playing 3D videos, the display is infinitely close to a fully real three-dimensional image.

The reason why it is called LED holographic screen is because this new display carrier has the characteristics of ultra-thin, high-definition, high-brightness, and high transparency. When playing holographic video or 3D video, the human eye naturally three-dimensionally integrates the scene in front of and behind the screen with the picture in the screen, forming a strong three-dimensional sense of suspension. Because the screen is a picture when the lights are on, it is transparent when the lights are off, and has no physical presence. The screen uses LEDs with integrated light drivers to emit light autonomously, so it is named LED holographic screen.

The emergence of this screen may fundamentally change the current status of the transparent screen industry.

LED transparent screens belong to a subdivision of the LED screen industry. The concept first appeared in 2012 and was favored by countless people, but the marketization has been tepid. By 2017, the product began to make breakthroughs, becoming lighter, more transparent, and lower energy consumption, and began to gain favor from the market, once accounting for about 5% of the LED screen market.

But at this stage, we are faced with product flaws encountered by further expansion of the market, which is the well-known problem that display and transparency cannot coexist. Because a transparent screen cannot be 100% transparent, it can only be as close to 100% as possible.

The existence of this problem directly leads to three major pain points faced by today's LED transparent screen industry:

Either it requires keel support, and some manufacturers have weak product driving capabilities. In order to take care of the overall display effect, keels are used to conduct electricity and support. Although it is partially transparent, it cannot be fully transparent, and it appears to have obvious flaws.

Or the display effect is poor. In order to seize the market, many manufacturers sacrifice the display effect based on meeting the needs of the concept. As a result, the product can only be viewed from a distance and has basically no display capability at close range. It only has a decorative effect, which weakens the user experience and ultimately affects the further marketization of the product.

Either installation and maintenance are difficult, and due to technical and design capabilities, the purchase is a temporary pleasure, but installation and maintenance become a nightmare. For example, transparent screens represented by crystal films and photovoltaic glass cannot be repaired on site when problems occur and need to be returned to the factory. Subsequent maintenance costs are extremely high.

The above problems are largely due to the inability to achieve "both considerations". If you want to be more transparent, you may not be able to display the picture better. If you want to display the picture better, you may sacrifice transparency. There is also the inability to take into account the weight and structural model, which makes it difficult to expand the market of the product.

The launch of this LED holographic screen by Meisi Micro adopts a self-developed IC with extremely strong driving force. Coupled with high-quality materials, high-standard craftsmanship, and clever design, the entire screen is truly transparent.

It is likely to reverse the current status of the LED transparent screen market, because it gets rid of the constraints of the keel, optimizes the display effect, maximizes the transparency, simplifies installation and maintenance, and innovatively achieves naked-eye 3D effects.

It once and for all solved the long-standing pain points of the industry. This product attracted strong attention from the semiconductor industry just after its release, and was well received by industry insiders.

During the exhibition, it won the first prize in the "Mofa Cup" 2022 Industrial Integrated Development - Virtual Reality Innovation Competition Finals and the "Virtual Reality Display Leading Application" award sponsored by the Industrial Culture Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It also won the Metaverse (Display Category) Leading Application Award at the 2022 Hi-Tech Fair World Metaverse Ecological Conference, the 24th Hi-Tech Fair Excellent Product Award and the 2022 Las Vegas Stage Lighting and Audio Exhibition Best Debuting Product Award.

The relevant person in charge of Micro Micro revealed that this product had been ordered in advance by a large supermarket in Dubai before it was released. They were optimistic about the commercial value of LED holographic screens in prominent commercial locations. During this Hi-Tech Fair, it also received an intended order worth tens of millions of dollars from foreign businessmen.

Based on the current momentum, this product will most likely become a hit in the LED market in 2023. As the concept of the metaverse continues to gain popularity, people are more and more hoping to feel its charm in their daily lives. Through its powerful naked-eye 3D capabilities, Micro-LED holographic screens will allow countless people to enter the metaverse era one step ahead of schedule, intentionally or unintentionally, at city landmarks, street windows, and various places in the CBD.

It is understood that Shenzhen Meisi Micro Semiconductor Co., Ltd. was established in 2012. Since its establishment, it has adhered to the high-tech and high-quality technology development strategy and has been at the forefront of the semiconductor segment industry. At present, it has completed upstream IC design, midstream light-emitting device packaging, and downstream display application full-chain services in the LED transparent display industry.
